Science fuels human thinking!

As society more and more looks inward to its 3G phones, and while news networks focus on politics and war, science continues to move forward. People in leading industrialized nations no longer demand a steady informational stream of the most up to date human learning. It is left to those of us who care about these advances to take up the tools of the information age and build with them portals into the latest theories and applications in the various scientific fields. To that end we welcome you to scienceuptodate.info, where you will find up to date information regarding Space Exploration, Technology, Health, Physics, Flora and fauna, Mind and more.

It may be that efforts to put mankind further into space are half-hearted in this era, but that doesn’t stop science from exploring the cosmos using tools built from an impressively rich and complex array of materials and methods. However the purpose of these tools is often theoretically quite simple. Such is the case with the WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) satellite which at its heart is simply a digital camera. The results are stunning, as is the case with many of the unmanned space exploration exploits currently underway. All of them will be covered at ScienceUpToDate

Some of the technology used by space exploration is benefitting from advances made right here on earth for cheap production of solar power. It has been argued by some that photovoltaic cells are limited in their potential and too expensive too build in sufficient quantity, but that hasn’t stopped scientists at Caltech form thinking outside the box. They have come up with a method of constructing photovoltaic cells which uses only one percent of the silicon employed by current designs, but which operates at 85 percent of the efficiency of current cells. Green technology dominates much of the current cutting edge of technological evolution, and is indeed proving to be just as marketable and profitable as its proponents first forecast that it would be decades ago. ScienceUpToDate will be watching these advances and reporting on them.

Closer to ourselves and therefore more immediate are the advances in medicine and health. For instance, the endeavor to more efficiently convert adult human cells into stem cells is advancing apace, but an area of controversy is the fact that the most common method of triggering the conversion in the first place is the use of a virus. Could this turn the human race into something its not? Apparently the ethical questions never cease to hound health science in general, and the subject of stem cell research in particular. Perhaps those scientists studying memory and cognition can offer their colleagues an assist by programming the human brain to forget the ethical questions when they become inconvenient.

These and other topics will be covered on scienceuptodate.info. It is hoped that the information presented here will not only inform, but excite discussion and do its part to keep alive the interest in scientific advancement so crucial to our understanding of ourselves, our world, and our future in it.
